How it works in 3 steps
- You respond: You mark the items about your sexual function over the recent period.
- The areas separate out: The five domains of sexual function are read one by one.
- It is interpreted: The result is evaluated in the context of health and the relationship.

When professional support helps
What does the IIEF measure?
Sexual function is an area in which bodily, emotional and relational factors all play a part together. By addressing the different dimensions separately, the IIEF helps you see in which area a difficulty is mainly located rather than reducing everything to a single figure.
The result supports planning that brings together the assessment of physical causes with attention to psychological and relational factors, so that no single explanation is treated as the whole picture.
How is it scored?
Items are scored for each area and summed; lower area scores point to greater difficulty in that domain. The interpretation is always made together with a holistic assessment rather than from a number alone.

What do the score bands mean?
The ranges below are a general frame. No band makes a diagnosis on its own; a result only becomes meaningful when a clinical psychologist interprets it alongside your life story.
| Score | General interpretation |
|---|---|
| 1–25 | Severe sexual dysfunction |
| 26–49 | Mild-to-moderate difficulty |
| 50–75 | Normal sexual function |
Limitation: It is a self-report tool and a scale never makes a diagnosis on its own. Because difficulties with sexual function can also be linked to physical causes, a medical and psychological evaluation together is recommended.
Psychometrics and source
The IIEF (Rosen et al., 1997) has been validated in many languages and is treated as a standard measure in clinical research; its domain scales show high internal consistency and sensitivity to treatment-related change.
